World Ocean Day has been celebrating the ocean on 8 June every year since 2002. We currently face one of the greatest threats ever to our blue planet and all its inhabitants: the climate crisis. Clearly, a healthy climate depends upon a healthy ocean. Ensuring this demands stronger local, national, and international action from governments, corporate leaders, and everyone who cares.
World Ocean Day formally unites and rallies us all in protecting and restoring our precious, shared ocean. Specifically, the Conservation Action Focus is on protecting 30% of the Earth’s land and ocean by year 2030. This growing collaborative conservation empowered by the World Ocean Day Youth Advisory Council unites a global network of leaders in 140 countries, providing resources for us all to restore and protect our ocean.
Please visit https://worldoceanday.org to: make tax-deductible contributions; sign the online petition to protect 30% of the ocean by 2030; find events – or plan your own and get it listed; download resources; connect on social media; and learn more.
