First of all I would like to say excellent blog! I had a quick question. I was curious to find out how you center yourself and clear your thoughts prior to writing. I have had a difficult time clearing my thoughts in getting my ideas out. I truly do enjoy writing but it just seems like the first 10 to 15 minutes are usually lost simply just trying to figure out how to begin. Any recommendations or tips? Kudos!
Thank you Venetta. I will recommend Julia Cameron’s great book “The Artist’s Way,” which suggests that we all write “morning pages.” This is a longer way of suggesting that you write more and more, to the point that you are not so intimidated by the act of committing your words to something. Something that may also help you is a framework I picked up in a Broadcast Copywriting class in college. These are the sections of what is called the Copy Platform: Client; Objective(s); Target Audience; Sales Theme; Bonus Items; Positioning; Approach. By taking a little time to enter what you know about your “assignment” into a Copy Platform, I usually find that what needs to be written becomes pretty obvious. I hope this helps!
